Registered Nurse - Surgical Abdominal Unit Part Time 32 Hour Per Week Opportunity Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, WI 4 North is a 44 bed unit which provides 24 hour nursing care to medical/surgical patients. Surgical patients that are unique to 4 North include those having undergone: biliary surgery, bowel surgery, a whipple, a pancreatectomy, a gastrectomy, an ileo anal pull thru, placement of a new tracheostomy or free flaps with tracheostomy, a radical neck, an esophogogastrectomy, a thoracotomy, placement of AAA stents, a carotid endarterectomy, a mastectomy, or an otolaryngology procedure. 4 North may also provide nursing care to those patients that have had GYN surgery: a vaginal or abdominal hysterectomy; vascular surgery: a AAA, a fem-pop bypass, or an embolectomy; urology surgery: a nephrectomy or lithotripsy; abdominal surgery: an appendectomy, a cholecystectomy, a hernia repair, a Lap Nissen, or a splenectomy. Patients recovering from eye surgery or rectal surgery may also be cared for on 4 North. In addition to the above listed surgeries care is also provided for patients with an ileus or small bowel obstruction. Nursing provides care to patients with multiple medical problems, which are related to or secondary to their surgical procedure. The Registered Nurse, working in collaboration with the primary physician, provides coordination of the patient plan of care and the patient care team. The Registered Nurse works with the patient/family/significant other(s) and interdisciplinary team members to develop an individualized plan of care to include educational and discharge planning interventions. Together with interdisciplinary team members, the Registered Nurse evaluates the plan of care and addresses unmet outcomes for further intervention or consultation. The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process to deliver care for specified patients in accordance with Saint Joseph's Hospital's Mission, Policies and Procedures and Standards of Practice and Care, and the American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses. Essential Functions Conducts initial and ongoing assessments for assigned patients. Identifies and analyzes alterations in diagnostic findings with patient's clinical presentation. Assesses patient's status through interview, observation, and physical assessment. Consistently prioritizes a patient care assignment based on changes in patients/conditions and unanticipated interruptions while delegating care in order to achieve optimal and cost effective patient and organizational outcomes. This is a part-time 32 hour per week variable position working primarily evenings and nights including every other weekend and holiday. Qualifications: Graduation from a National League for Nursing (NLN) approved school of nursing Associate Degree, Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in nursing is required Work experience in an acute care setting is preferred, but not required.
