Responsible for coordinating and scheduling all field safety courses for both grantees and support personnel.
GENERAL DUTIES (not all inclusive):
Maintains a safe workplace program and ensures that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
Complies with all ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management and Quality Assurance requirements, goals, policies and procedures.
Functions as the main POC for scheduling, coordinating, and tracking all field safety courses at McMurdo Station.
Maintains a proactive approach to problem solving and information gathering. Interacts with others in a professional and friendly manner, whether by telephone, email or in person.
Updates the Training Tracker master list and records student numbers throughout the season.
Helps coordinate food orders and resupply for field teams.
Coordinates and executes transportation for field courses and activities.
Requisitions and tracks office supplies and supply inventory.
Organizes and co-leads Field Support and Training morale trips for the community as necessary.
Assists in field work days and in the Berg Field Center as required.
May provide functional guidance to other field support and training employees.
Performs administrative duties and maintenance of workplace as required.
Assists with timecards and expense reports for Field Support & Training staff
Performs other duties as required.
Must be highly self-motivating, organized, efficient and able to deal with multiple last minute changes.
High School diploma or equivalent required. BS/BA degree preferred.
Valid Driver’s license required. Wilderness First Responder Certification preferred.
Four years of experience, in any combination of the following is required: outfitting groups working in polar environments or high altitude winter settings, weather reporting, equipment operation, logistical coordination, outdoor education and/or office management.
Computer competent and proficiency in Microsoft, Excel and outlook is required.
Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods is required.
Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.
Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors.
Must successfully complete the physical, dental and psychological (if applicable) examinations as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica.
Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts and safety objectives.
