Washington State DSHS Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/PSN) - Eastern State Hospital in Medical Lake, Washington
The Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), Behavioral Health Administration (BHA), is seeking experienced, motivated Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) to join our team. We are looking to fill both on-call and full-time jobs are located at Eastern State Hospital (ESH).
Evening and night shifts include a shift differential in addition to standard rate of pay. On-call staff are scheduled 4 weeks in advance based on projected staffing needs; and include a combination of weekday and weekend shifts.

Eastern State Hospital is staffed 24 hours a day and is composed of three clinical areas; Forensic Services Unit, Adult Psychiatric Unit and Geropsychiatric Unit.
On a regular basis you'll:
- Provide patient care and security to individuals experiencing acute mental distress or who have a chronic mental illness.
- Exchange pertinent clinical information during shift change.
- Administer medications and treatments.
- Complete paperwork for medication orders and Pyxis/electronic documentation.
- Implement security policies and requirements.
- Complete patient education.
- Lift and transfer patients; de-escalate patients; and escort and transport patients.
We're looking for someone who has:
A valid Washington State license as a practical nurse, or the ability to obtain a valid license prior to employment.
Our Forensic Services Ward is seeking individuals who have two years' experience caring for patients or residents in a hospital, school, mental health, or other treatment facility.
Additionally, be willing to:
- Work in a facility receiving Medicare funds
- Administer medications
- Adjust scheduled hours of work to meet the hospital's workload demands (i.e. work overtime, holidays, etc.)
- Work with patients who have high risk behaviors and medical problems.

We would like to find someone who is proficient in the operation of the following equipment: computer, copy machine, metal detector, and patient lifting equipment, Pyxis, electronic documentation, and hospital emergency equipment.
