Eastern State Hospital is seeking experienced, motivated Psychiatric Security Attendant's with a passion for helping people with mental health issues to join our team. Both full-time and on-call positions are available.

The above salary reflects a 12.5% increase starting September 1, 2016.

Some of the duties

A Psychiatric Security Attendant will observe and document behaviors and changes in patient conditions, and communicate the information to the Registered Nurse; deliver care per individual patient treatment plans; will communicate, report, and document significant changes in patient condition and clinical information; de-escalate patients; lift and transfer patients; accompany and transport patients to community medical and emergency appointments, and off ward activities.

Our on-call staff are scheduled 4 weeks in advance based on projected staffing needs. The hours include a combination of weekday and weekend shifts.

Who should apply

People who have two years of experience in care of psychiatric patients and are registered as a nursing assistant in the State of Washington.

*If you are a licensed practical nurse, this may be substituted for the required experience providing the training included experience in psychiatric nursing.

* If you have college level coursework in one of the social sciences, this may be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis.

NOTE: Proof of education will be required at the time of the interview

  • Someone who is able to communicate with management, peers, clients, and the public
  • Someone who is proficient in the operation of the following equipment: computer, copy machine, metal detector, and patient lifting equipment
  • Someone who is willing to adjust scheduled hours of work to meet the hospital's workload demands
  • Someone who is willing to work with patients who have behavioral, emotional, psychiatric, social, medical, and/or correctional problems, and who may exhibit inappropriate non-compliant and/or aggressive behavior
