The Miami Veterans Affairs Healthcare System (MVAHS) seeks a Medical Physicist to join the Radiology Therapy Service on a Fee for Service Basis. The fee rate varies depending on the procedure performed. Examples of some procedures include but not limited to Therapeutic Radiology Simulation, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT, Basic radiation calculations, etc...

United States Citizenship. Applicants must be US Citizens
Education. Applicants must possess a Masters degree or higher in a physics, science or enginnering discipline recognized by an accredited college or university with at least 30 semester hours in medical physics, health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology.
Certification. Possession of certification as a Medical Physicist issued by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) is highly desirable (Applicants must submit a copy of their certification within the application packet)
Minimum Grade Requirements
In addition to the requirements above, candidates must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, GS-12 level in Federal Service.
experience is defined as experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties, and that is typically in or related to the work of the Health Physicist. Examples of specialized experience include: applying protocols and regulations regarding quality assurance and radiation safety in the medical use of radiation materials; ensuring the proper function and calibration of radiation treatment devices and quality assurance equipment; generating plans for conventional, 3D conformal, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), and Total Body Irradiation (TBI); utilizing therapeutic exposure methods using accessories to produce high quality x-rays and proper treatment dose; and operating various types of equipment used in radiation treatment.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
