Sales Representative


The Large Animal Sales Representative is responsible for sale of specified products in the geography assigned, within the framework of Merial policies. This position will be responsible for the promotion and sales of all Merial production animal and equine products with special emphasis on Merial’s new parasite control product, LONGRANGE and antimicrobial, ZACTRAN. He/she contacts face to face or via meetings all identified customers/consumers and potential customers/consumers as needed to build/maintain necessary rapport to achieve target dose and dollar volume shares of Merial products.

The Large Animal Sales Representative completes all objectives including achieving Sales Plan while operating within specified expense budget. The incumbent provides a key leadership role and guidance for Distributor Sales Representatives in the territory. He/she also keeps current territory records concerning activities and communicates timely, accurately and meaningfully with the Region Manager and others as required utilizing computer, voice mail, written and phone communications resources effectively. He/she regularly updates current product information to maintain a knowledgeable and accurate level of information as needed for position fulfillment.

The Large Animal Sales Representative is responsible for knowing available territory markets, market potentials, and keeping current on changes that are taking place in these markets; demonstrating an awareness of the importance of building a strong image for self, products and Company; conducting him/herself in a manner befitting this awareness by maintaining trade and professional relations consistent with the strategic objectives of Merial; and providing key liaison with local cattle industry organizations and other business and professional associations in the territory.


  • Requirements include a Bachelor's degree and related experience in agricultural sales.

  • Candidate must possess the cattle background and knowledge to effectively communicate and sell to cow-calf and stocker producers.

  • Must demonstrate an aptitude and desire to sell, gain market and service knowledge and demonstrate the ability to learn technical product knowledge.

  • Key competencies include interpersonal skills, drive, resilience, teamwork, organization skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Credible persuasive skills are of paramount importance to initiate and close sales.

  • Strong presentation abilities and computer skills essential.
