The Central Alabama Veteran Health Care System (CAVHCS) is a consolidated health care system that includes VA Medical Centers in Montgomery and Tuskegee Alabama, as well as Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) in Dothan Alabama, Ft. Rucker Alabama and Columbus Georgia. The primary duty station is Montgomery, Alabama; however, you will be required to travel and work at other CAVHCS locations as required.

Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) is seeking a full time permanent board certified or board eligible Neurologist qualified to diagnose, treat, and manage patients with neurological diseases according to standard, usual, and acceptable methods and techniques. Member will be experienced in performing/interpreting EMG/NCV and EEGs, evoked studies as well as sleep studies. Duties also included but not limited to neurological evaluations, patient examinations, diagnosis, consultations. Provider Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Basic Cardiac Life Support required. The selected neurologist is accountable to the Associate Chief of Staff for Acute Care and Specialties Service Line and the Chief of Staff.

Normal Work Schedule: Full Time, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.., Monday through Friday (On call as required)

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following requirements:

  • U.S Citizenship (Non-citizens may be appointed only if it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens).
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Completion of first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical.

Preferred Experience:

  • BLS/ACLS: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification is required.
  • Board Certification/Eligible: Board certification or eligibility in Pulmonary Medicine.
  • Minimum of one-year direct patient care post fellowship.

Physical Requirements: Standing, walking, lifting light loads, assisting patients with positioning and transfers. Must be able to use a computer to input orders, review reports etc. Must be able to communicate directions and patient orders. Light lifting (under 15lbs), light carrying (under 15lbs), use of fingers, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other, hearing (aid permitted), emotional stability, mental stability, working closely with others, working alone, and working with bio hazardous materials.
