Catalent Pharma Solutions Supervisor, Metrology in Morrisville, North Carolina

The metrology supervisor position reports up through the Site Service organization which is part of the Engineering and Capital Projects department at the Morrisville RTP location. The Engineering and Capital Projects provides engineering services to include utilities, facilities, process and automation engineering, project management, and validation to include instrument qualification, equipment qualification, process validation, and computer system validation. Site Service provides maintenance and calibration services covering facilities, utilities, equipment, manufacturing, instrumentation, and Stability engineering, and metrology.

Job Summary

Provide leadership and supervision for the Metrology and Stability Engineering groups. The Metrology and Stability Engineering are technical support groups that supports nearly 6000 instruments across 6 buildings at the Morrisville, NC site. The group reports to the Manager of Site Services. The maintenance supervisor manages and participates in the daily coordination of approximately 6 Metrologists and 4 refrigeration technicians. Support activities vary by instruments, but most instrumentation and equipment undergoes a calibration and full PM every 6 months.

Specific Duties, Activities, Responsibilities and % of time

  • Manage and lead Metrology and Stability Engineering groups

  • 15%

  • Manage Calibration Out of Tolerance deviations Trackwise

  • 5%

  • Manage all planned and unplanned work to meet Catalent standards

  • 40%

  • Review planned and unplanned maintenance work

  • 10%

  • Write, review, and approve as required ICPs and SOPs

  • 5%

  • Follow all applicable SOP's, ICP's

  • 5%

  • Manage vendor relationships for the execution of maintenance activities required to support Metrology and Stability Engineering

  • 5%

  • Manage expenses associated maintenance activities required to support Metrology and Stability Engineering

  • 5%

  • All other duties as assigned

  • 10%

Associate’s degree with a minimum of 5 years’ experience managing maintenance organizations required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to organize time for multiple tasks

  • Communicates effectively with other internal departments and vendors

  • May be recognized as a technical resource of defined scope for routine issues

  • Proactive in problem solving

  • Keeps manager apprised of the status of work

  • Must be able to work effectively on any laboratory team

  • Must have a working knowledge of metrology gained through hands on experience and can perform necessary tasks

  • Must be able to make judgment based on familiarity of basic policies and guidelines and be able to provide assistance to others

  • Experience with Maintenance Connection, and BlueMountain's Calibration Manager software is a plus

Physical Requirements

  • On an average 8 hour day this position requires the ability to walk, sit and stand, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms at or above shoulder height and below waist height, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear, smell and lift up to 40 pounds

  • Ability to work at heights exceeding 6 ft

  • Specific vision requirements including reading of written documents, visual troubleshooting of equipment, use of computer monitor screen frequently and have the ability to clearly see and focus on objects as close and far distances with good depth perception

  • May be required to support the instrument shipping and receiving needs for the group, which could require packing, boxing, labeling, and transporting packages of instruments for shipment from one of Catalent’s Shipping and Receiving facilities

  • May be required to fulfill requirements of motorized vehicle operation (vision, hearing, physical limitations) or use of a respirator

Working Conditions and Environment

  • This position will be stationed in an office and laboratory environment involving some exposure to wet, humid (non-weather) and variable temperature conditions; working near moving/mechanical parts; working around various chemicals including biologics, active pharmaceuticals, beta-lactams and radioactive materials; working at heights on a motorized platform or ladder; working on or around live electrical equipment; and other conditions reasonably expected due to the nature of the work required.

  • Typical work hours are from 8am – 5pm, though employees are permitted to “flex” within company guidelines – with the approval of their Supervisor.

  • May have to work overtime to ensure group needs are met.

  • Staff members may be requested to travel for parts, services, etc.
