JOB SUMMARY:

Provides primary clinical support to the provider, patient and their family to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient's condition. Follows up on diagnostic testing to ensure completion, accuracy, and filing of same in medical record to ensure continuity and quality of care. Promotes a clean environment. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in specific age range on their assigned clinical area.

 

Works under the general direction of the Site Lead for daily operational issues.

 

Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and maximize patient

satisfaction.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

*1. Obtains and documents patient medical history, chief complaint, vital signs, and

provides basic medical data base for provider, and prepares patient for examinations.

 

*2. Provides direct clinical care as directed by provider.

 

*3. Assists provider in performance of minor surgical diagnostic procedures and

ancillary diagnostic exmainations as directed by provider to facilitate accurate

diagnosis.

 

*4. Collects and prepares laboratory specimens (blood, urine, sputum, wound secretions)

and completes associated paperwork (request slips, lab log, container labels, billing

documents) to expedite laboratory studies with maximum accuracy and efficiency.

 

*5. Matches all incoming laboratory reports, radiology interpretations, consultation

reports, and diagnostic examination results with patient's medical record to create a

complete and accurate medical record.

 

  1. Under the direction of the provider and/or site lead, assists with orientation of new personnel to ensure that they are appropriately trained to support patients and provider.

 

*7. Executes and documents ongoing patient communication, as directed by provider,

prioritizes communications to the provider, responds to patient questions and requests to ensure efficient use of provider time and timely response to patient's needs.

 

*8. Reviews and reinforces instruction as directed by provider to ensure patient's

understanding of medical condition and compliance with treatment instructions.

 

*9. Inserts, monitors, regulates and discontinues IVs as required by provider and per scope of practice.

 

*10. Administers medications and vaccines including intradermal/skin testing under the

direction of a provider and per scope of practice.

 

  1. May inventory medical/surgical supplies, pharmaceutical and controlled substances to

ensure adequate supply levels, verify expiration dates, document utilization, optimize

organizational efficiency and space utilization.

 

  1. May clean, sterilize (when appropriate) and prepare instruments, according to

established protocols, to ensure required level of asepsis and adequate availability.

 

*13. Routinely inspects/observes condition and operation of diagnostic equipment and

instrumentation to ensure proper operation and identify need for preventive and/or

corrective maintenance. May assist in specific laboratory functions as defined by CLIA

relative to the testing, reporting, and quality assurance of laboratory specimens as

trained and directed by the provider.

 

*14. Cleans/sets up examination and treatment rooms between cases, ensures required

level of asepsis, availability of appropriate instruments and equipment, and preparation of patient.

 

*15. Keeps current with policies and procedures and participates in quality improvement

activities.

 

  1. Performs other duties as required or assigned by emergency or other operational

reasons for which the employee is qualified to perform.

 

  1. Responsible for actively participating in patient safety improvement and management program. An active participant:

a. Assumes responsibility for identifying processes or systems that could potentially lead to errors and adverse events.

b. Knows and follows organizational and departmental policies and procedures applicable to assigned duties.

c. Participates in required organizational and departmental patient safety education programs and other activities designed to improve departmental and organizational patient safety.

d.Promptly reports serious events and incidents in accordance with established hospital policy and procedure.

 

*18. Assists with coordinating external disease management and case management organizations.

 

  1. Performs other duties as required or assigned by emergency or other operational

reasons.

SPECIFIC POSITION DUTIES:

 

COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

Demonstrates good organizational skills and effective communication skills.

  

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

 

Graduate of accredited nursing program, current PA license or eligible for licensure.

Must be qualified to pass medications. Must be BLS certified.

One year prior medical/surgical or clinic related experience preferred. 

 

Note: Will consider a Certified Medical Assistant or a Medical Assistant skill set level at the appropriate compensation rate based on relevant experience.
