Job Overview

US Army Veterinary Services operates as a subsidiary of Public Health Command. Their mission is to provide military veterinary services in support of United States Army Medical Command and Department of Defense missions. The civilian function of the Veterinary Services is a supplemental mission which exists to assist soldiers and their families in the field of animal health and care.

The Naples Veterinary Treatment Facility (VTF) is looking for an experienced veterinary technician to join our team! The Naples pet community grows by the day, and the VTF has a primary mission to serve as medical support for the military working dogs assigned to the NSA Capodichino Security K9 Division, as well as privately owned animals, and the control of zoonotic diseases. The clinic needs a knowledgeable team member who takes initiative and has the skillset to provide top-notch care, in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. The facility has the means to provide routine, surgical, and dental care, in addition to diagnostic testing and other forms of specialized care for pets, whenever possible. As an Animal Health Assistant at the Naples VTF, you will be an essential part of the team and its mission and will have the opportunity to refine your existing skills, while being challenged to develop and sharpen new ones.

The Naples Veterinary Treatment facility is located in Gricignano di Aversa, Italy. The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 0800-1600, unless otherwise posted. The work schedule may vary based on mission needs. This is a FLEX/Intermittent position with the Naples Veterinary Treatment Facility. Flexible employees serve in a continuing position on a scheduled or as-needed basis. No weekends, U.S. Federal Holidays, shift work, or traveling will be required.

Salary is pro-rated based on a 40 hour work week. Hourly pay is $12.41-$15.67.


Responsible for the appearance, sanitation, supplies, and patient flow for one or more designated exam rooms. Verifies patient reason for visit and prepares supplies for veterinarian examination. Obtains patient history and records vital signs, to include blood pressure, temperature, and pulse into the veterinary treatment record.

May assist veterinarian during surgical procedures, to include preparing surgery packs, scalpel blades, and suture material, monitoring a patient using an anesthetic machine. Prepares and administers vaccinations, oral and topical medications to patient as prescribed by the veterinarian. Applies knowledge of preventive care, disease prevention, lifestyle risks, and veterinary care to provide individualized wellness counseling to clients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 1. At least six (6) months of work experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to the duties of an Animal Health Assistant (such duties would include assisting veterinarian to prepare for surgical procedures; obtaining samples from skin scrapings, venous blood, fecal and urine; etc.) *Minimum Qualifications must be listed on submitted resume and will be validated during the applicant review and rating.*

BEST QUALIFIED CRITERIA:* 1. At least twelve (12) months of experience working side-by-side with an accredited veterinarian, effectively performing not only routine care duties, but also those related to assisting with various surgical and dental procedure. 2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (ex. Word, Excel, etc). 3. Experience using ROVR (Remote Online Veterinary Record). 4. Active LVT (Licensed Veterinary Technician) or RVT (Registered Veterinary Technician). *Best Qualifying Criteria must be outlined in submitted resume. Applicants meeting the best qualified criteria will be referred to the Selecting Official first. All other applicants will be referred for consideration if the certificate (referral list) is returned with no selection.

Conditions of Employment: 1. A one-year probationary period may be required. 2. Meet all qualification/eligibility requirements. 3. A completed and signed copy DA Form 3433 is required prior to entrance on duty. 4. Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-VERIFY) check. 5. Appointment is subject to completion of a favorable background checks (to include an ANACI - Access National Agency Check with Inquires) to determine suitability for this position. 6. Satisfactorily complete a physical examination prior to entrance on duty. 7. Valid social security card and photo ID are required prior to entrance on duty. 8. Must not have an aversion to animals, blood, bodily fluids, animal tissues, strong odors, needles, or sharp instruments. 9. Long periods of standing, restraining, kneeling, reaching and sitting, etc. 10. If required, must be able to receive all mandated immunizations to work in a veterinary environment.
