Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Program Coordinator I. Reporting to the Director of the LGBTQ and Intercultural Resource Center.

The Program Coordinator I provides, but is not limited to programmatic and special event coordination, student advising and administrative support for the LGBTQ & Intercultural Resource Center and its’ staff. Examples of the activities will include:

  • Oversight of peer education programming, mentorship programming, intersectional and intercultural programming;

  • Student organization advising, special event planning, managing event reservations for rooms/catering/transportation/technology;

  • Preparation of contracts for vendors, coordination of advertisement of programs and events;

  • Coordination of all front desk functions, oversight of student workers, budget accounting and invoice processing;

  • Data tracking for program attendance and space utilization, appointment scheduling and note-taking, and assistance with other programmatic offerings as needed.

  • As they arise, this position will assist with the administrative and programmatic support functions of special projects.

Minimum Education and Experience

Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of coordination, organization, facilitation, report analysis, writing, and promotion/outreach. Also requires a minimum of two years relevant experience in a program coordination or administrative function.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent communication skills, and computer literacy. Strong knowledge and experience working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people and the matrix of identities within which they reside, across race, ethnicity, faith, class, sex, ability, etc. This is necessary to adequately serve the student population that this department serves. Background in college student development and/or knowledge of college student development theories/philosophies.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference for applicants with degrees in the following disciplines: college student development, higher education leadership, sociology, psychology, social work, human relations, or other social science or student-oriented discipline.

Special Conditions

This position may interact with minors; the successful candidate may be required to complete the Protection of Minors Program. Availability to work nights and weekends as needed.
