Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Secretary I for the Department of Medical Oncology for Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. The primary purpose of the Secretary I position is to provide high-level confidential administrative and secretarial support. Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Provides administrative and secretarial support to faculty and laboratory personnel.

  • Answers and screens phone calls, person inquiries and reviews, sorts, and prioritizes incoming correspondence and mail.

  • Assists with new hires and resigning employees. Coordinates with Human Resources in the notification and submission of paperwork, including visa applications.

  • Maintains and updates faculty calendar and schedules meetings and conferences and arranges travel.

  • Maintains paper and electronic filing systems for records, correspondence and other material.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Graduation from an accredited program in secretarial studies, plus four (4) years of full-time secretarial experience required.

  • An additional year of experience is required in lieu of the secretarial program.

  • College credits may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for secretarial experience.

  • Up to sixty (60) credits may be substituted for two (2) years of secretarial experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills required. Knowledge of medical oncology/hematology terminology, transcription and strong writing preferred.

  • Effective, oral and written communication skills.

  • Must be computer-literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. Moderate noise.
