Finance helps our internal clients outperform over time. At BNY Mellon, Finance serves our internal clients by providing world-class accounting operations and control and decision support while instituting world-class change management. Global Procurement is responsible for establishing the programs to acquire products and services for BNY Mellon by employing deep category knowledge and commodity expertise, coupled with an understanding of the needs of our businesses and business partner groups. The Corporate Treasury group is responsible for managing the investment portfolios and the liquidity and capital positions of the various subsidiary banks and of BNY Mellon.


The Tax Senior II is primarily responsible for the following:

  • Review and approve the work products of a team of 4, including:

o Validation and approval of non-payroll tax withholding deposits for transmission to the Internal Revenue Service, or applicable state tax authority

o Review of the monthly return proformas submitted by business units and shared service centers which summarize year to date non-payroll tax liabilities and deposits, including:

§ Consultation with the business units regarding the review of the monthly proformas

§ Development of process improvement plans to increase efficiency and detect compliance issues in the monthly proformas

o Review of year-end tax returns (Forms 945, 1042 and state returns) and development of applicable proformance improvement plans

  • Provide guidance and direction to junior members of the team as they work on daily activities and ongoing projects.

  • Develop and deliver of tax technical training to team and business units

Additionally, the Tax Senior II is responsible for the approval of periodic business unit tax compliance reviews. The reviews are performed to ensure business unit compliance with BNYM’s policies, IRS regulations, and FATCA Intergovernmental Agreements regarding information reporting and withholding. Upon completion of the review, the Tax Senior II will review findings, plans for remediating deficiencies identified, and manage the remediation status of the various business units. Further, the Tax Senior II provides review to periodic planned and unplanned ad hoc requests in order to assist the businesses and Tax Compliance Manager resolve tax compliance issues.

As a reviewer the Tax Senior II will develop and deliver process documentation, training content, and super user support as requested for special projects and continuous improvement work efforts. The Tax Reviewer II is expected to keep abreast of IRS regulations regarding information reporting and withholding requirements.


BS or equivalent experience. 5 years experience. 8 years preferred.

Preferred experience:

  • 3-5 years of tax compliance and/or accounting experience with large CPA firm or Corporate Tax Department.

  • Strong written and oral communications skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications
