The Norton Outpatient Clinic provides a vital source of healthcare for a large Veteran population in the area. The clinic is part of the James H. Quillen VA Healthcare System located in Mountain Home (Johnson City) Tennessee.

Duties: The duties will include providing vital healthcare services to Veterans as the Lead Physician at our new clinic located in Norton, located in Wise County, Virginia.
This is a unique opportunity to take a role of leadership in program development and in providing Primary Care services. We are seeking an immediate fill for full-time Family Medicine or Internal Medicine Physician to serve at the facility. The Physician reports directly to the Chief of Primary Care and Community Medicine at the Mountain Home VA. The Physician is charged with providing outpatient-only primary care for eligible Veterans in the area. The required skill set includes current Primary Care clinical proficiency, willingness and ability to encourage teamwork, implement new initiatives and maintain high standards of performance. A broad working knowledge of and experience with VA policies and procedures is desirable, but not mandatory. VA Primary Care Providers are responsible for coordinating all aspects of the patients' care, making referrals to specialists, ordering procedures, ordering and monitoring all medications plus handling all their patients' acute needs.
Work Schedule: Generally administrative-type hours, 7:45 am to 4:30 pm, Monday thru Friday (some clinic hours may be extended as needed)
Salary: Applicant's education and length of practice (experience) will be considered by a Physician Compensation Panel in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected
Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses may be authorized for this position.

- Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
- Licensure. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- English Language Proficiency. Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Background in ongoing outpatient primary care clinics.
Board certification in Internal Medicine/Family Medicine.

Physical Requirements: Physicians should be physically and mentally capable to perform the examinations, formulate the diagnosis and treatment plan, and educate residents. Physical activity includes sitting, standing (up to 2 hours), walking (up to 2 hours), heavy lifting (45 pounds or over), reaching above the shoulder, and repeating bending. They should be emotionally and mentally stable and capable of performing the duties of the position.
