Mechanical Engineer – Sustaining Engineering Group
Instron’s Sustaining Engineering group is looking for a talented mechanical engineer to join the team. The position offers the opportunity to work on a wide array of projects including design and development of new products, improvements and updates to current products, complex investigations of quality or manufacturing issues, and vetting new technologies for design and manufacturing. In this position you will be responsible for a number of projects and tasks including design, build, test, reporting, and optimization. You will work on Instron’s broad product portfolio including sophisticated machinery and precision instruments, and will deal with many types of parts (precision machined, sheet metal, cast, molded, extruded, 3D printed), and technical challenges (function, fit, wear, packaging, lubrication, fatigue, corrosion). You will be a part of a dynamic group, working on solving technical challenges while having access to experienced engineers for advice and mentoring as well the opportunity to work with junior engineers and co-op students. The position requires frequent interaction with many Instron departments as well as vendors and suppliers.
Requirements and Experience
Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and 2-5 years of experience.
Experience in mechanical or machine design that has incorporated basic machine elements, mechanical drive systems, kinematic principles, and design for manufacturability and assembly.
Experience with CAD - SolidWorks (or equivalent), mechanical drawings, BOM’s, and engineering changes.
Experience in product development, ideally designing a variety of parts spanning different applications and manufacturing processes.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, forming, injection molding, finishing, materials and assembly operations.
A keen eye and a hands-on approach to troubleshooting. Ability to understand and solve problems is a must.
Ability to handle multiple tasks while being thorough and detail-oriented.
Desire to learn, and ability to grasp and apply learned concepts quickly.
Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work within team environments.
