This position is located in the Veteran Canteen Service Omaha, NE . Please see Duties section below for more information about the duties.
As a Food Service Worker, you will be responsible for duties such as:
- Operate a dish washer machine.
- Remove and transport soiled trays, pans and utensils.
- Clean tables and seats as necessary.
- Operate cash register within standards and security guidelines, while assuring that proper selling prices are charged to each customer.
- Verify cash and coupon withdrawals.
- Count cash drawer at beginning and end of shift each day.
- Keep silverware, cups, napkins, coffee, soda pop, CO2 and all items necessary for customer service stocked.
- Maintain work area in a clean and orderly fashion.
- Assist in storing of food items, assuring that items are properly dated and identified.
- You must have the knowledge and ability to operate and clean all kitchen equipment.
Work Schedule: 11:00am to 7:30pm with rotating days off.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:As a Food Service Worker your work requires manual dexterity, and is subject to continuous standing, walking, frequent stopping, reaching, pushing, pulling and bending. You must be able to life and move items weighing up to 45 pounds, and occasionally over 45 pounds. May perform heavy work such as, scouring large cooking utensils, and pushing heavy carts/trucks in unloading, storing and delivering food/supplies. May be required to work on ladders and use powered cleaning products.
Specialized Experience: Ability to read and interpret instructions and perform simple calculations used in food preparation. Experience in the food service industry, including experience with operating/cleaning kitchen equipment or facilities, knowledge of proper food handling and food sanitation procedures, customer service training.
There is no educational substitution for the NA -7408 level.
You will be rated on the following Competencies based on your application for this position.
Competency 1 Have general knowledge of food service, possess operational knowledge of a variety of kitchen equipment and have exposure to proper food handling and sanitation procedures.
Competency 2 - Be able to follow oral and written instructions; must be able to read tray tickets and menu labels; must have knowledge of basic arithmetic in order to determine amounts of food and trays required; must be able to communicate with patients in order to convey patients' complaints and/or concerns; and must have good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and interact with customers and co-workers in a positive, friendly manner.
Competency 3 - Perform tasks involving several procedures, and to concentrate on assignments despite interruptions and distractions.
Competency 4 - Have a working knowledge of infection control procedures, including appropriate temperatures for foods and equipment, appropriate sanitation standards, cleaning methods, food handling methods and use of established time frames.
