Officially established in October 2006, the Orlando VA Medical Center serves more than 105,000 Veterans in Central Florida and includes a 120-bed Community Living Center, two Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Programs/Domiciliaries (60-beds located at the Lake Nona Campus and 58-beds at the Lake Baldwin Campus), three large multi-specialty Satellite Outpatient Clinics in Orlando (Lake Baldwin campus), Viera and Daytona Beach, and four Community-Based Outpatient Clinics located in Clermont, Kissimmee, Orange City, and Tavares. The new medical center at Lake Nona is open for outpatient and inpatient services and will continue to expand inpatient beds, Emergency Services, and other specialty services throughout 2016/2017. As VA's newest state-of-the-art health care facility, Orlando's 65-acre medical campus encompasses 134 acute inpatient beds, providing complex Medical/Surgical/Mental Health specialty care, advanced diagnostic services, and a large multispecialty outpatient clinic.

Position Summary:

The Orlando VA Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse who is responsible for the development, initiation and ongoing training of providers and nursing staff, serving as a resource for technology and staff inquiries related to the utilization of the electronic medical record, computer hardware and/or software and an educator in formal and informal settings. The ideal candidate utilizes their clinical nursing expertise to optimize use of the patient care software applications and effectively impacts practice regarding electronic documentation issues that impacts patient care delivery. He/she is responsible for developing and administering a plan to maintain computer competence of staff as activation of the new Lake Nona Medical Center progresses. This CPRS Trainer will report directly to the Chief of Informatics.

Work Schedule: Normal work days/hours will be Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with work day/hours flexibility as required by administrative and/or clinical demands.

This candidate must be willing to work an occasional weekend/evening/night tour of duty to meet staff clinical informatics needs when required

Position Requirements/Qualifications:

(1) US Citizenship

(2) Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by the Accrediting Commission on Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

(3) Current, full, active and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the US or in the District of Columbia.

(4) Most be proficient in written and spoken English.

Preferred Experience/Qualification:

(1.) BSN Degree required, with Master's Degree in Nursing or a related field preferred; (2.) A minimum of three (3) years full-time, successful nursing experience with demonstrated leadership skills. (3.) A minimum of one (1) year of successful teaching/training experience preferred; (4.) National certification in Nursing Informatics (e.g. ANCC Informatics Nurse) or in a related focus area preferred; (5.) Advanced knowledge and experience in the use of word processing, spreadsheets, data bases and presentation programs along with sufficient knowledge of computer hardware to instruct and/or resolve issues related to the use of computers, printers and presentation equipment organizationally; (6.) Advanced skills in all aspects of oral/written communications, as demonstrated in previous assignments; (7.) Demonstrated ability to be self-directed, function independently, and work effectively with others at all levels within the organization; (8.) Demonstrated ability to work successfully with interdisciplinary teams in project management.

Grade Determinations:Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows: Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization; Professional Development: performance, education/career development; Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality; Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research.
