Overall Job Objective: To lead and manage the decision support function within the business unit by driving improved business performance and performing as a trusted advisor for both Business Unit and company leadership.

  • Serve as leader and mentor to Finance Business Partner(s), providing direction and guidance in serving their respective business leaders, as well as coaching and development opportunities to ensure their continued success

  • Understand the strategic levers, getting behind the numbers to identify ways of adding value to the business and challenging others to find ways of improving productivity and efficiency

  • Provide input on internal and external comparators, benchmarks and best practice into decision making, keeping up with trends and changes in technology, customer base, relevant legislation and policy, and seeking out new routes to market that will maintain the future profitability of the business

  • Anticipate the potential impact of change in order to develop and adapt strategy so the business maintains its competitive edge and are seen as the “industry benchmark”

  • Act as a catalyst between the business and Finance so there is synchronized thinking and an understanding of each others’ information requirements, challenges and priorities

  • Collaborate with the Business Partner community to leverage experience/practices and agree on a common set of priority needs from Finance department(s)

  • Challenge and support business decisions with analytical rigor, insights and judgments so that better decisions are made

  • Task the business to control costs and support them in managing any divergences from targets being proactive in developing solutions

  • Engage others to constantly drive themselves to achieve more, achieve better and delivery quality and profitability

  • Collaborate with specialist teams to create effective and integrated financial solutions, provide feedback & help to identify continuous improvement opportunities

  • Proactively partner with the Business Unit by providing sound and informed advice, challenging assumptions and “status quo” reasoning, and holding the unit accountable for its performance

  • Maintain focus on execution of the strategy and vision of the Business Unit, in furtherance of company strategy, at a tactical and logistical level

  • Assist and support the oversight and execution of internal control, risk management, and monitoring and assurance activities

  • Frequently travel within assigned region to meet with leadership and spend time in the branch locations


Please note: This position can be based in the following Ferguson locations: Newport News, VA, Orlando FL, Lakewood NJ, DC Metro Area or Charlotte NC.

  • Bachelor's Degree required; MBA and/or CPA preferred

  • Minimum of 8 years related work experience

  • Proven experience as a Finance partner with business unit/KOB/regional organization

  • Ability to negotiate, debate, and articulate in a constructive and professional manner as an advocate for the integrity and profitability of the business

  • Motivated self-starter willing to work on their own initiative and drive

  • Outstanding and professional written and oral communication skills

  • Proven ability to communicate and explain complex finance and operational issues to a diverse audience (i.e. branch employees to senior executives)

  • Demonstrable desire to acquire holistic understanding of business and processes and drive in going after needed information

  • Proven ability to work across functions such as operations and credit

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and financial modeling

  • Strong ability to organize data, perform independent analysis, and prepare management presentations

  • Ability and willingness to travel
