Lab Support Service Tech-Casual

We are seeking a team oriented, flexible, and experienced phlebotomist to join the laboratory team! In this role, you will be based in the lab and providing draws on inpatient throughout the hospital in various units and outpatients. This position includes variable shifts and a weekend rotation.
Performs phlebotomy on all ages including venipuncture, arterial, and capillary collection. Maintains phlebotomy supplies and keeps a clean work station. Processes laboratory specimens as assigned prior to testing including centrifuging. Effectively and safely follows laboratory policies and procedures. May perform general clerical work and other duties as assigned
Duties • Performs blood collection from inpatients, outpatients, nursing home patients and other clients. • Observes standard precautions before during and after blood draw. • Verifies correct patient by following patient identification policy. Finds patient orders from anywhere in the system including central scheduling, and Lab Module. Enters laboratory tests correctly into Meditech. Performs meditech order entry: includes using look up fields to locate correct test, and query fields. • Understands and uses Diagnoses codes, and how they might affect reimbursement. • Prints barcode labels and properly labels samples. • Demonstrates knowledge of specimen requirements. Knows special handling and preparation of tests that are to be performed. • Looks up and orders various reference tests. • Receives specimens that are drawn or that are delivered by courier as required. • Processes specimens prior to analysis. Uses centrifuge to process specimens as appropriate. • Creates batches for specimen transport to all locations, prepares sample, and verifies list. • Prepares specimens for transportation, and uses user notes for instruction on specimen handling. • Distributes specimens to appropriate departments. • Gives proper instruction to patients for specimen collection
• Answers/ initiates phone calls and answers question from other departments. Performs general clerical work as needed. • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge related to patient care and assessment serving all age groups newborn through geriatrics. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Laboratory and phlebotomy experience preferred.
Works independently and as a member of the team.
Handles difficult patients, customers, situations, and perform quality work under stress.
