VAMC Tomah ( http://www.tomah.va.gov/ ) has been improving the health of the men and women who have so proudly served our nation. We consider it our privilege to serve your health care needs in any way we can. Services are available to veterans living in a Western/Central area of Wisconsin.
In addition to our main facility in Tomah, we offer services in four community-based outpatient clinics. These clinics are located in LaCrosse, Clark County, Wausau, and Wisconsin Rapids. VAMC Tomah is one of seven facilities that comprise Veterans Integrated Services Network 12 (VISN12) which is administratively headquartered at Hines, IL, and includes facilities in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
The incumbent for this position may be eligible to apply for the Education Debt Reduction Program, up to $120,000 over 5 years, depending on the amount of verified qualifying debt balance and funding availability. This position is open for 12 months or until filled. Lists of eligible will be sent to the hiring manager on a regular basis.
Pay will commensurate with experience based on VA's market based physician pay system.
The Tomah VA Medical Center is recruiting for one (1) highly qualified Board Certified/Board Eligible physician for the Primary Care Clinic at the Clark County Outpatient Clinic. The Associate Chief of Staff Medicine Service will provide the work assignments for this physician and will provide professional direction. The physician will be granted clinical privileges for the VA based on his/her specific expertise. Work will commence immediately upon completion of orientation. The physician will be required to work cooperatively with other physicians, advanced practice nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, administrative staff, and a variety of allied health professionals to deliver comprehensive health care services to veteran patients. The medical center utilizes a computerized medical record system. The physician must be familiar with personal computers, have adequate keyboard skills to perform all data entry (progress notes and physician orders, history and physicals, discharge summaries), and be able to navigate through windows based computer programs. Training on the computerized medical record system will be provided by the medical center.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The physician will follow and meet all medical center policies, rules and regulations.
The physician is required to be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) and to maintain the certification during their work at the medical center.
Function as a full team member of the interdisciplinary team serving patients at the VA.
Provide history, physical examination, diagnosis, and initiation of medical treatment.
Initiate and facilitate treatment and transfer in emergency situations.
Follow-up office visits for existing medical problems and appropriate diagnostic test and medication adjustments.
Referral of patients as needed to appropriate specialists, health care facilities, and coordination of home health services.
Document assessments and plan of care for each patient in accordance with policies and procedures.
Act as a consultant in clinical practice and may serve as a managing/supervising physician for physician assistants.
Communicate and collaborate effectively with other providers and disciplines to ensure continuity of patient care.
Collaborate and act as a patient advocate.
Maintain knowledge of new and current clinical methods.
Abide by all Medical Center policies and procedures.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
