JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB SCOPE:

Intermediate Engineer Level, focused on applying/supervising engineering best practices on field operations related with SDS products (DDV, RCD, UBD, Air Drilling and MPD). Excellence in Operational performance and Engineering standards focused engineer. Responsible for implementing the basis of design and recommendations obtained from the planning phase executed by an Project Engineer or Field Engineer of higher level and to coach junior Field Engineers. The engineer will work closely with the subsurface disciplines, well systems and regulatory to come up with the safest and most efficient plans to drill a well using the SDS specific product. The Field Engineer will work under the supervision of the Engineering Manager and Field Engineers/Project Engineers of higher level. Additionally, the Field Engineering Level is responsible for ensuring that operations comply with Weatherford’s technical and safety standards.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Know and understand Weatherford Quality Policy and comply with all requirements of the Quality Systems Manual, Operating and Technical Procedures and Workplace Instructions.

Support engineering design working together with a Field or SDS Project Engineer of higher level including all aspects of project preparation and technical proposals for MPD/UBD/AD wells (Feasibility Studies and SDS Drilling Programs).

Perform engineering simulation and enforce best operational practices on rig site.

Responsible for ensuring Weatherford best practices are adhered to in all drilling proposals and programs.

Provide engineering support to operations from the office when required.

Attend as engineer on UBD/MPD/AD projects. Understand the working principle of all equipment and parts related with UBD/AD/MPD/RCD/DDV equipment.

Responsible for completing daily operational reports, daily plots and keeping updated the End of Well Report document. This last document will be finalized in the office in a logic time frame established by the Engineering Manager.

Train Junior Field Engineers in operational practices, transferring knowledge and experience.

Write, recommend, refine, or establish documented procedures required to enhance operational procedures and systems. Update P&ID based on procedures defined.

Perform onshore rig inspection write a standard related report, define P&ID and flow process diagram.. Support Wellsite Supervisor, Field Engineer or Project Engineer of higher level on jackups/semisubs/drillships/other offshore structure rigs inspection, help to define P&ID, flow process diagrams and write the inspection report.

Perform jobs audits.

Support SDS Crew in equipment rig-up/rig-down following instructions from the crew supervisor. Must understand and comply with all safety rules and company policies of Weatherford.

Actively participate in Hazid/Hazop, DWOP and well planning meetings.

Keep track of lessons learned and its Project in subsequent operations.

Ensure that all problems (related to UBD/MPD/AD/DDV/RCD recommendations, equipment, or procedures) are documented and necessary corrective actions are taken. All such occurrences must be reported to the Area Operations Manager and Engineering Manager.

Prepare operating procedures in accordance to type of operation and help to optimize P&ID’s.

Responsible for connecting our sensors to our main data acquisition system, collect the data, data interpretation and system troubleshooting.

Monitor, collect, plot and analyse downhole data, focused on process optimization.

Responsible for keeping track of safety cards collected during jobs, summarize QHSE events on EOWR and making sure the recommendations are implemented of future jobs.

Responsible for updating all the technical operational information (DDR, EOWR, etc.) in WPTS during or just after the job is conducted.

Operate the Microflux, semi-auto or manual MPD systems. UBD Choke, DDV, Land RCD and multiphase Separator operation will have to be monitored by the engineer.

Work together with the Wellsite supervisor on UBD/AD/MPD/RCD/DDV equipment performance monitoring and troubleshooting.

Supervise MPD (Microflux, semi-auto and manual systems) equipment commissioning, green tag and repair/maintenance procedures, following instruction from crew leader. Support project leader on commissioning, green tag and repair/maintenance procedures for the rest of SDS equipment.

Supervise equipment/parts preparation for shipping from any WFT location/base. Supervise that all equipment is working properly according to best practices. Supervise that all working tests are documented, stored and available at job site. Supervise that all shipping parts list are updated.

Provide to rig/operator crew with technical presentation for training purposes.

Keep constant communication with customers, updating them with our results.

Support Project Engineers on writing technical documentation (Real Results, Magazine articles and Conference abstracts/papers).

Attend technical/business meetings when requested.

Manage single phase and multiphase, steady state and transient, hydraulic simulators. Support operators with well balancing, surge/swab, torque and drag, directional drilling and casing running calculations.

Active role in assisting Sales/Business development group with client meetings and presentations.

Service and care of his personal or assigned vehicle as well as assigned work tools at the base and onsite.

Preparation and delivery of technical presentation, engineering studies, end of well reports, etc.

Keep himself updated on other products from the service company that could help the operator to optimize their drilling/completion process.

QUALIFICATIONS

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability and willingness to learn thru a structured development program which includes internal and external courses, external certifications and practical on the job training (both office and field).

An accredited Engineering degree (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical/Electronic, Industrial or Petroleum preferred).

Prior experience in MPD/UBD/AD/RCD preferred.

Experience working with single-phase/multi-phase hydraulic simulators.

Proven English language communication skills required (both oral and written).

Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft suite.

Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.

Excellent problem solving skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects with a positive attitude.

Proven time management skills.

Support workshops, attended by clients and PSL personnel, aimed at analysing and mitigating risks.

Must be eligible to apply or must have legal authorization to work on a full-time basis in the North America region (USA and Canada).

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited University with 1+ years related experience as Field Engineer or similar in another company.

Must be willing to travel to remote land and offshore work locations and possibly to other countries. Ability to travel internally in the region or globally if required attending meetings, customer office assignments or operations.

Excellent communication skills

The physical ability to immediately respond to emergency situations.

Preferred:

Drilling and Completion experience.

Onshore and Offshore exposure.

Proficiency using and interpreting hydraulics, torque & drag analysis, casing design, drillstring/BHA design, data analysis, real-time evaluations models and systems.

Experience running well planning software

Technical or operations experience with an operator in the field of drilling, completions, or reservoir.
