Heartland Payment Systems, Inc. Senior Application Architect in Plano, Texas


As a Senior Application Technical Architect, you will be helping about three teams; each team consisting of about six developers, three QA testers, a lead, a product owner and a scrum master - in understanding business requirements, designing complex business POS terminal / embedded applications and libraries, tools and testing / release methods.

Even though your primary focus is on the architecture, design, stability and maintainability of the application code, you will also be working closely with other stakeholders like Directors, Development Managers, Sales, Release and Operations teams in making sure we deliver a quality product on time and budget.

Qualifications and preferred skills:

  • Very strong oral and written communications skills. Should be able to express ideas with ease and make sure people understand complex problems and their solutions.

  • A strong technical and development background is a must. Should have excelled in C, C++ and Java languages with a minimum of 15 years developing software.

  • Should have a passion towards good documentation. Experience in writing meticulous documentation that is crystal clear in requirements.

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the Payment Industry.

  • Having the following soft skills is a must: listening to others’ ideas, discussing pro & cons, ability to accept the best possible design or architecture even if presented by others and working around business priorities, schedules and release process to meet business needs.

  • A strong understanding of the complete life cycle of a software development life cycle. Experience in both Waterfall and Agile methodologies.

  • Dynamic, can-do and results-oriented attitude is a must.

  • Have a commitment to attention to detail.

  • A sense of personal ownership for projects you are responsible for.

  • Enjoy working in a fast paced environment.

  • An appreciation for the requirements of mission critical systems.

  • Work with technical groups, quality assurance, and customer support groups to resolve problems.

Education/Certification : B.S. / B.A. college degree.

Required Knowledge : Complex Design and Architecture of POS terminal / embedded systems.

Experience Required : 15-20 years’ work experience.
