Poplar Bluff Missouri is located in southeast Missouri between St. Louis, Missouri, Memphis, Tennessee and Little Rock, Arkansas. Approximately 50,000 Veterans live in our service area with about 40 percent of them receiving care at our Medical Center annually. The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center, Poplar Bluff, MO is a seeking full-time, Board Certified or Board Eligible Hospitalist to join Specialty Care Service.

*Duties include but are not limited to the following: *

  • Works with other physicians extenders, nurses, and/or other support staff;
  • Renders inpatient care for hospitalized Veterans alongside an existing Hospitalist;
  • Offers consults and supervise the work of Nurse Practitioners in the community living center;
  • Cares for patients in an inpatient setting which is a 14-bed facility (with no ICU or ER);
  • Requires ACLS and BLS.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm with weekend calls shared among other physicians.

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following:

Basic Requirements:

  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

Preferred Experience: Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal or Family Practice and Hospital medicine certification.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

Physical Requirements: This position involves direct patient care. Exposure to surroundings which involve moderate risks or special precautions. Typically involves long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, lifting, and positioning of patients, sitting and carrying items such as books, instruments, and other items.
