Poplar Bluff Missouri is located in southeast Missouri between St. Louis, Missouri, Memphis, Tennessee and Little Rock, Arkansas. Approximately 50,000 Veterans live in our service area with about 40 percent of them receiving care at our Medical Center annually. This non-affiliated medical center maintains contractual agreements for educational program providing clinical practice sites for various professional programs. The John J. Pershing (JJP) VA Medical Center is a seeking full-time Board Eligible or Certified Urgent Care Physician, Specialty Care Service Poplar Bluff, MO. This includes working in the outlining Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). Duties include but are not limited to:
Document observations, assessments, and changes in patients' condition;
Collaborate with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes;
Write orders for appropriate diagnostic test, prescribe medication, consult with specialty service and utilize electronic health records;
Determine need for hospitalization at the JJP facility or transfer patient to alternate facility;
Must complete clinical reminders and meet performance measures, as applicable;
Provide comprehensive care to adult patients from young adult to elderly without a scheduled appointment; and
Assess the need for treatment for acute medical, Women's Health, or psychiatric illness or minor injuries.
Work Schedules will vary to meet the needs of our Veteran population seven days a week, 24 hours per day to include evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts:
Monday-Friday, Midnight to 8:00am;
Monday-Friday, 4:00pm to Midnight;
Saturday-Sunday, 8:00am to 12:59pm;
Regardless of assigned shift, the physician is required to cover day shift (Monday-Friday) during the absence of the primary Urgent Care provider. The physician will be responsible for the urgent/emergent care of patients in the Acute Care (inpatient) section and the Community Living Center on weekends, holidays, and after 4:30pm on weekdays.
Travel/Relocation Expenses are not authorized for this position.

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following:
Citizenship of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience: Board certified or eligible in internal medicine, family medicine, or emergency medicine.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Requirements: This position involves direct patient care. Exposure to surroundings which involve moderate risks or special precautions. Typically involves long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, lifting, and positioning of patients, sitting and carrying items such as books, instruments, and other items.
