Job Overview:

Lead application design activities for powertrain integration projects, as well as lead program management activities for multiple engineering programs and the associated technical strategy for ongoing and future powertrain projects.The position requires good organizational skills and strong communication with internal and external customers.


·Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills that transcend immediate department boundaries to include Daimler interdepartmental, inter-organizational, and customer environments.

·Interface with other engineering and non-engineering departments to promote successful collaboration and achievement of corporate, as well as group, objectives.

·Ensure particularly effective and efficient communication streams between Detroit Powertrain and DTNA Engineering organizations.

·Prepare packaging studies, analyses, presentations, and project status updates for senior management. Ensure appropriate level of high quality and responsive support is provided to department's internal and external customers, including DTNA Engineering, while prioritizing available resource capacity.

·Provide prototype and production intent designs for interfaces between TP/P powertrain products and NAFTA (DTNA) vehicles.

·Field, prioritize, track, and communicate customer change requests through Daimler internal processes, most frequently in regard to vehicle – powertrain design interfaces.

·Perform DMU of engines, aftertreament, transmissions in relation to vehicle and application queries.

·Facilitate communication of requirements and expectations between Detroit, Stuttgart, and Portland truck product teams.

·Initiate exploratory technical assessments and definition of scope regarding proposed powertrain application changes or new features, particularly with regard to design, including a system perspective.

·Design powertrain and interface components in close collaboration with Detroit and Stuttgart based TP/P engineering and design teams, including consideration of overall Daimler module strategies.

·As necessary, proactively collaborate with responsible cross functional teams regarding the definition of downstream validation and implementation activities.

·Plan, execute, and monitor time schedules for multiple Engineering projects which allow for achievement of program targets.

·Conduct risk management to control effect on the program.

·Effectively communicate to teams outside of engineering and to the customer.Drive resolution to open items which could impact the projects.

·Lead development and coordination of new project/program proposals. Communicate technical requirements to support the business case evaluation.

·Strong collaboration, if not lead cross functional activities with regional and global counterparts in Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, Purchasing, and supplier base.

Bachelor’s degree with 1 year of related experience OR an associate’s degree with 2 years of related experience OR 6 years of related experience required

Preferred Qualifications:

·Knowledge of medium/heavy duty engines, aftertreatment systems, transmissions, and axles.

·Detailed understanding of engineering development processes and downstream impacts.

·Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks and communicate across span from working level engineer to senior executives.

·Experience leading projects involving cross functional groups.

·Experience in Powertrain documentation systems (EDS/BCS/SMARAGD/Engineering Client)

·Experience in CAD (Siemens NX)

·10% of national travel required
