Prestonsburg, Kentucky is consider the "Star of Eastern Kentucky" and is located in the heart of Appalachia. The city offers a wide variety of recreational activities, such as boating, hiking, nature watching, golfing, musicals, festivals, arts and crafts, and historical sites. Prestonsburg is located close to two larger cities Ashland, Kentucky and Huntington, WV, and only a few hours away for more major cities.

The Psychiatrist will perform all duties and responsibilities of a staff psychiatrist as specified in approved clinical privileges, as well as be effective in teaching (patient education and co-workers), planning, using administrative judgment, and using sound decision making skills. Must be emotionally stable, dependable, and adhere to ethical standards. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform examinations, diagnosis, and therapeutic treatment.
  • Handle emergencies within the Community Based Outpatient Clinic.
  • Responsible for patient management and appropriate electronic documentation in patient medical records.
  • Diagnosis of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Substance Abuse, dual Diagnosis.
  • Perform examinations, diagnosis, and therapeutic treatment.
  • Perform exams in outpatient care, telemental health, and psychiatric consultations.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm

Basic Requirements:

  • Citizenship of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Candidate who has the Suboxone waiver under DATA2000 or is willing to obtain.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
