Senior Managing Region Counsel, NAM (US)
Mastercard is seeking a seasoned, management-level attorney to be responsible for providing comprehensive, end-to-end, strategic support to the U.S. Market. The Senior Counsel will be managing counsel on the highly skilled North American Region legal team, supporting the largest region at Mastercard. This role specifically manages a small team of attorneys who work closely with the U.S. Market Development and U.S. Customer Delivery & Solution Sales teams.
Oversees and contributes as a principal, day-to-day advisor for our sales clients by partnering with the business and legal specialists to deliver on strategy, including expanding Mastercard acceptance and securing Mastercard share with merchants, acquirers, prepaid program managers, issuers and other strategic partners
Sets team objectives, manages executive escalations as appropriate, and provides guidance and support to team members.
Structures, drafts, reviews and negotiates complex customer agreements, including identifying and providing solutions for legal and business risks and influencing decision making at the executive level
Collaborates with internal subject matter experts to better understand and be able to advise holistically on our products and relevant marketing, regulatory, compliance, privacy and antitrust issues.
Trains and educates clients on processes, risks, changes in laws and regulations and the U.S. regulatory landscape on an ongoing basis
Partners with North American Markets compliance lead to ensure products and services comply with corporate policies, such as gifts and hospitality, anti-bribery and anti-corruption and third party on-boarding.
Identifies needed process improvements, leads execution of solutions to support our transformation strategy.
All About You
Substantial experience working collaboratively and cross-functionally within an in-house legal department at a public company preferred.
Able to lead a team of highly skilled lawyers, provide coaching and feedback.
Exceptional business insight and strong communication skills to interact confidently and effectively with Mastercard executives and executive-level customers.
Complex transactional legal experience with strong negotiating skills and the ability to understand and simplify complex concepts, issues and deal structures
A team player, willing to take on responsibilities and roles that support the team, department and the company
JD from an accredited law school; admitted to and in good standing with the NY bar.
