Systems Engineer

Job Summary:

The sponsor requires a candidate to provide systems engineering for the structured and unstructured data, ingested and manipulated via the sponsor’s foundation architecture and infrastructure. The selected candidate will be a member of a dynamic team that engineers solutions for an analytic data platform and data science environment and will interact with programming, platform, and network engineers, as well as those responsible for storage and system administration.

The Systems Engineer (SE) shall support developing long-term strategic initiatives to meet the customers’ present and future mission needs. The scope of strategic initiatives may include the coordination of design, development, analysis, and deployment of innovative equipment, projects, cutting edge technologies, or operations for the use of collection capabilities, or solutions. The individual shall utilize a network of individuals to assess internal/external customers' and/or industry capabilities to develop and evaluate organizational weaknesses. Where these weaknesses occur, an action plan shall be developed to resolve current or future gaps in capabilities. Duties include facilitating changes or modifications in one or more high risk/profile project to include operational devices and/or solutions to support technical, analytical or operational requirements. The SE shall support the following strategic leadership activities: identifying, analyzing, defining, and coordinating user, customer and stakeholder needs and translating them into technical or operational requirements for the research, development, production and/or procurement of processes, systems and/or services. The individual shall support the senior management in the identification, deployment and maintenance of complex applications, equipment, tools, or systems to ensure proper functionality.

Job Description:

  1. Demonstrated on-the-job experience with System Monitoring/Management tools, such as Nagvis, IPMI, Puppet, Splunk, Nagios.

  2. Minimum 5 years of demonstrated on-the-job experience performing Linux system administration, Linux engineering and Linux security engineering.

  3. Demonstrated on-the-job experience with Amazon Web Services or other cloud virtualization capabilities.

  4. Demonstrated on-the-job experience with scripting languages, such as Ruby on Rails, Python or Java.

  5. Demonstrated on-the-job experience engineering end-to-end system build efforts with proven ability to work with other engineers to meet immediate customer’s needs.

  6. Demonstrated on-the-job experience designing, engineering, and implementing automated patch management of Linux and Windows environments.

  7. Demonstrated on-the-job experience and a working knowledge of building infrastructure using AWS API command line interfaces to interact with AWS Services.

  8. Demonstrated on-the-job experience securing Windows/Linux environments utilizing the latest in security best practices while meeting immediate mission demands.
