SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provides emotional support to pediatric patients and families, enabling family unit to cope with stresses of hospitalization. 2. Provides developmentally appropriate activities and materials to further social, emotional, physical and cognitive/intellectual growth. Adapts activities and materials to individual physical limitations. 3. Participates in the patient’s education process. 4. Develops and maintains effective communication mechanisms with staff, physicians and patients/families and nursing management. 5. Implements the Child Life Program within the constraints/expectations of the organization. 6. Participates in activities related to JCAHO accreditation process. 7. Responsible for activities related to students and volunteers in the Child Life Program. 8. Acts as a resource on children’s issues throughout the hospital and the community. *EDUCATION:*
Required: Graduate of a Bachelor’s Degree program in Child Life, Child Development, Therapeutic Recreation, Special Education or a closely related field.Preferred: Master’s Degree *EXPERIENCE:* Required: Proven experience and expertise in Child Life (minimum 2-5 years recent clinical experience).
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Required: Maintains Child Life certification as Child Life Specialist. Maintains current Basic Life Support certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.
