Job Description

The position will provide professional legal support in the recovery of debts owed to the Commonwealth of Virginia on a large portfolio of cases. Responsibilities include identifying and locating debtors and assets; making demand for payment; establishing/monitoring payment plans; preparing general district and circuit court legal documents for attorney approval, including warrants in debt, bills of particular, complaints, garnishment summons, and witness subpoenas; identifying and preparing trial witnesses, and executing judgments. Some overnight travel will be required.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate must possess excellent communication skills and analytical ability; the ability to prioritize the demands of a large caseload; considerable knowledge of legal principles, practices, and processes; and the ability to work both independently and as a team member to successfully complete complex assignments within prescribed time limits. The successful candidate must manage a diverse client base and a voluminous work load, and be responsive to inquiries from client agencies, courts, opposing counsel, debtors, and DDC staff. As with all positions in the Office of the Attorney General, other duties as necessary or appropriate may be assigned. A minimum of five years of extensive collections or litigation experience is required. Proficiency is MS Office Suite is required. A bachelor’s degree with major course work in accounting, business, public administration or paralegal studies is preferred. The successful candidate must possess a valid driver’s license.
