Basic Description:

Deep subject matter expert aligned with a focus of supporting the Welding Industry and the ITW sales team with product and technical knowledge. Work as part of a cross-functional team developing and applying new welding processes and welding systems that include multiple ITW technologies including; power supply, wire and semi-automatic and robotic automation. Work in a team environment to design solutions, providing demonstrate-able economic benefits to customers. Support large end-user conversion opportunities and defend key accounts. The Field Applications Engineer will provide in-depth knowledge to inform and educate end-users and distributors as needed. Provide world class field application support for industrial manufacturing segments using above mentioned systems. The individual will also be responsible for daily incoming application related phone calls from end users and sales team. Set up training/demonstrations for industrial customers and ITW field teams. Must be a self-starter, aggressive, and a good team player, and possess the ability to make independent decisions and follow through to completion. Good communication and listening skills are extremely important.

Employee must be willing to travel when necessary; at times on short notice. Up to 60% travel required.

This position is located in the Richmond, VA area .

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert regarding ITW Welding Power Supply and Wire offering

  • Create compelling, fact based ROI/Key Account Management Review Presentations and implement ROI solutions that focus on adoption of ITW products for key customers

  • Understanding complete process and application details of how/where specific products are used

  • Create and articulate product conversion justifications, presentations, and business correspondence

  • Assist other ITW sales resources with technical knowledge to support presentation of the full ITW value proposition

  • Identify and evaluate manufacturing constraints/opportunities with the targeted customers.

  • Reporting on activities, opportunities, project status with the ITW operating units

  • Provide on-going training and support for key area of product concentration with end-users and distributors

Job Requirements


  • BS in Welding Engineering or Welding Engineering Technology or 5+ years in practical experience in a welding fabrication manufacturing environment

  • High personal confidence and ability to be assertive. Can be direct as well as diplomatic.

  • Candidate must be a self-starter and a team player

  • Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills as well as manage multiple tasks

  • Demonstrates honesty, keeps commitments and behaves in a consistent manner

  • Good presentation skills

  • Experience in supporting both processes and procedures in all welding processes related to industrial manufacturing

  • Experience in the programming and operation of GMAW robots (i.e. Panasonic ABB, Fanuc, and Motoman) is helpful
