The purpose of the class is to provide and facilitate complex, diversified office support within the assigned department, provides administrative support to Assistant and Senior Assistant City Attorneys. The class is responsible for some routine and most specialized department administrative functions. Works within broad policy and organizational guidelines, independently plans and implements projects, and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision, may coordinate the work of lower level clerical support.

The City of Richmond is seeking a full time Legal Secretary for the Delinquent Tax area of the Special Litigation and Public Safety Section of the City Attorney's Office. Under general supervision, this position will provide secretarial support to the Delinquent Tax Attorney whose primary responsibility includes the collection of delinquent real estate taxes by subjecting properties to a judicial tax sale. Individuals who meet the qualifications below and who desire to work in a challenging and fast-paced environment are encouraged to apply.

Candidates must possess the ability to draft and review real estate and other transactional matters, conduct substantive legal and factual research, collect, analyze and organize complex information, excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and strong organizational skills. Must be computer literate and proficient with Windows 8.1 Enterprise or higher. A high school diploma, GED and formal training, special courses or self-education that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education or specialized advanced training is required. Six months of relevant clerical experience is required and at least 2 years of legal secretary experience is preferred.

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses:
  • Requires high school diploma, GED and formal training, special courses or self-education that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education or specialized advanced training.
  • Requires six months of relevant clerical experience.
