Mechanical Engineer


Serve as the on-site Mechanical Engineer supporting an enterprise Base Operations Support contract in the Central Virginia Area. This individual will be responsible for developing, leading and overseeing complex facilities projects or program that may involve significant acquisitions. They must demonstrate and apply highly developed interpersonal, analytical and communication (written and verbal) skills the ability to manage complex programs in a diverse and dynamic environment with short-notice tasking’s under high pressure situations.


  • Provide guidance to the Government senior manager on a range of complex project and program issues, including impact on Government buildings or food service, customer space with non-customer buildings and infrastructure while ensuring risks associated with a project have reasonable, sound mitigation strategies

  • Provide recommendation about the commitment of project resources, planning and implementation and demonstrate accountability for project and/or program outcomes including corporate interests

  • Confer with engineers and other personnel to implement operation procedures, resolve system malfunctions and provide technical information

  • Establish and coordinate the maintenance and safety procedures, service schedule and supply of materials required to maintain machines and equipment in the prescribed condition

  • Estimate costs and submit bids for engineering, construction or extraction projects and prepare contract documents

  • Investigate and oversee equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and make recommendation to maintenance personnel

  • Review and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics and computer generated reports

  • Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions

  • Research and analyze customer design proposals, specification, manual and other date to evaluate the feasibility, cost and maintenance requirements of designs or application; be able to coordinate activities with trade shops

  • Research, design evaluate, install, operation and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements by applying knowledge of engineering principles

  • Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications

  • Oversee and coordinate operations, maintenance, repair, engineering and inspections of all HVAC and plumbing equipment and mechanical rooms

  • Coordinate energy program and analyze utility costs

  • Serve as a SME in the event of an emergency

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience

  • (10) years of relevant work experience applying substantive Mechanical Engineering expertise in facilities

  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) License in the Commonwealth of Virginia

  • Must possess a current TS/SCI clearance with polygraph

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Certification in Facilities Management of PMP is desired.

  • Ability to work in a fast-pace environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

  • Expert computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office Suite

  • Working knowledge of CMMS and MAXIMO
