The duties of the transitional year program director will include, but are not limited to: * Administering and maintaining an environment conducive to educating residents in each of the ACGME competency areas * Overseeing and ensuring the quality of didactic and clinical education in all sites that participate in the program * Appointing local directors at each participating site who are accountable for resident education * Selecting and evaluating program faculty * Ensuring institutional policies and procedures adhered to by residents and faculty * Overseeing compliance with ACGME program requirements and reporting/remediating non-compliance promptly in collaboration with the Designated Institutional Official * Becoming familiar with and complying with ACGME and Review Committee policies and procedures as outlined in the ACGME Manual of Policies and Procedures * Fulfilling all duties as a program director specified in the ACGME program requirements to include oversight of preparation and submission of all information required and requested by the ACGME, including annual program updates to the ADS, evaluating quality of resident education experiences, monitoring duty hours and fatigue, providing residents feedback, and improving program with input from resident and faculty surveys. * Planning schedule for residents and working with other specialty leaders and programs to ensure efficient collaboration to promote optimal learning climate. * Preparing a program budget and overseeing execution after approval by Designated Institutional Official and hospital leadership * Assisting residents in career counseling to obtain follow-on residency positions * Ensuring residents accepted into a categorical program with specified curricular components have a tailored curriculum which conforms to the specialty requirements of the follow-on program * Serving as a member of the facility Graduate Medical Education Committee, * Serving on facility quality improvement and patient safety committees as assigned by the Designated Institutional Official.
- The qualifications of the program director should include documented educational and administrative experience in medical education.
- Examples of experiences highly desirable include current and prior program directors, associate program directors, core faculty members, and sub-specialty education coordinators.
- The program director must be board certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties, a current and unrestricted medical license, and hold a current medical staff appointment in his/her specialty.
