DUTY STATION: The duty station is at the John Cochran Division; however, the duty station may be changed to one or multiple associated VAMC locations within the metropolitan St. Louis, MO area based on the needs of the medical center.

The Saint Louis VA Health Care System seeks to hire a full-time outpatient Psychiatrist in the Mental Health Service, but serving exclusively within the Consult and Liaison Service. In this position the psychiatrist provides consultation to Emergency Department and Inpatient Medical and Surgical units. The ideal candidate would join our collegial staff in embracing compassionate care, clinical excellence, teamwork, and enthusiasm for teaching. There is an established psychiatric residency program as well as opportunities to collaborate with others on interdisciplinary medical teams. The incumbent is expected to provide high quality and efficient care and be able to work well in an interdisciplinary team setting. The VA maintains an electronic medical record and all staff contribute directly into the record. Academic affiliation with Saint Louis University School of Medicine is possible. The physician will need to be an effective communicator and team player who collaborates with multiple disciplines within Behavioral Health and the Medical/Surgical Specialties. The incumbent will participate in professional, clinical, and administrative activities as assigned.
Work Schedule: Preferred Tour of Duty is Monday - Friday, 10am -6:30pm, but is negotiable.

Basic Requirements :
- Citizenship of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed. Training: Physician must have completed residency training or its equivalent approved by the Secretary of Veteran Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA Physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.)

Physician applicants must have the mental and physical ability to perform core privileges required by the specialty position in addition to any specialty privileges requested.
