MEMBERSHIP IN THE NATIONAL GUARD IS REQUIRED: This is an Excepted Service position that requires membership in the Oregon National Guard as a condition of employment. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an Excepted Service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Unit of military assignment is any supporting unit of FMS 4. Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. Acceptance of a permanent or indefinite position with the Oregon National Guard will cause termination from any Guard Recruitment Bonus or Guard paid student loan. INTRODUCTORY: This position is located in the Organizational Maintenance Shop (OMS). Its purpose is to perform organizational and limited direct support maintenance on a variety of communication electronic equipment and related devices supported by the activity.MAJOR DUTIES:
1) Installs, maintains and repairs a variety of electronics components, related devices and equipment from fixed, semi-fixed and mobile facilities. Performs organizational maintenance and repair on electronic and communication receivers, amplifiers, switchboards, telephones, remote control sets, recorders, intercommunication equipment, night vision sights, searchlights, teletypewriter sets, intrusion detection systems, handsets, microphones, eve helmets, etc. Some electronics equipment serviced may be combined and interrelated with other electronics equipment and complementary devices. 2) Performs limited direct support maintenance and repairs, such as aligning and tuning electronics equipment; replacing defective switches, relay armatures, transistors, cannon plugs, wiring harnesses, slip rings, potentiometers, AC and DC motors, blower assemblies, converter assemblies, igniter assemblies, semiconductors, etc. 3) Conducts organizational level inspections of electronics equipment, identifies malfunctions, and troubleshoots electronics equipment to determine cause of failure. Determines whether equipment may be repaired at organizational level or evacuated to a higher level of maintenance.

METHOD OF EVALUATING QUALIFICATIONS:
Work involved in fabricating, overhauling, modifying, installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining ground, airborne, and marine electronic equipment, such as: radio; radar; sonar; cryptographic; satellite; microwave; micro computers and peripherals; laser; infrared; industrial x-ray; marine, aeronautical, and space navigation aid; TV receiver; surveillance; and similar devices. The work requires knowledge of electronic principles; the ability to recognize improper operation, locate the cause, and determine the best method to correct the defect; and the skill to disassemble, assemble, and adjust electronic equipment. The work includes using both manual and automated test equipment. The work may require the use of a personal computer and numerous software packages to program or realign various components or systems, download information, and detect equipment deficiencies. Experience or training which demonstrates the applicants knowledge of electrical or electronic theory, knowledge of common testing procedures, skill in the use of hand tools of the electronics trade, and skill in reading schematics.
Applicants applying at the WG-08 level must have 12 months of general and specialized experience or training in utilizing principles, basic functions and application of theory of electronic systems or equipment. Experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic equipment or systems. Experience in using hand tools, power tools and gauges to make intricate repairs. Experience in using diagnostic and testing equipment. Experience which demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications.
Applicants applying at the WG-09 level must have 18 months of general and specialized experience or training in utilizing principles, basic functions and application of theory of electronic systems or equipment. Experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic equipment or systems. Experience in making mechanical repairs that required the use of precision measuring and calibrating equipment. Experience in using complex test equipment such as deviation meters, complex special test panels, etc. Experience which demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications.
