MEMBERSHIP IN THE NATIONAL GUARD IS REQUIRED: This is an Excepted Service position that requires membership in the Oregon National Guard as a condition of employment. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an Excepted Service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Unit of military assignment is any supporting unit of DCSLOG. Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. Acceptance of a permanent or indefinite position with the Oregon National Guard will cause termination from any Guard Recruitment Bonus or Guard paid student loan. INTRODUCTORY: This position is located in the Joint Forces HeadquartersState, Logistics Directorate (J-4/G-4), State Surface Maintenance Management Office. The purpose of this position is to provide instruction and assistance to state unit personnel regarding Army National Guard (ARNG) equipment and maintenance management. Knowledge of the principles, concepts, and methods of equipment maintenance and management of a variety of ARNG equipment is required.MAJOR DUTIES:
(1) Serves as a recognized authority on the repair and operation of various types of ARNG equipment. Provides instruction and assistance regarding equipment maintenance procedures, techniques, and methods as a part of the Maintenance Assistance and Instruction Team (MAIT). (2) Provides advice, assistance, and guidance regarding maintenance management systems, material readiness programs, cost reduction programs, and maintenance shop practices in maintenance facilities. Monitors daily parts requests from all facilities. Provides guidance and instruction regarding maintenance actions in Global Combat Support System-Army (GCSS-A) (3) Prepares and conducts both classroom and on-the-job training designed to upgrade, improve, and/or update the knowledge and working skills of unit maintenance personnel. Develops, writes, updates, and teaches units of instruction for new equipment training. Evaluates training progress in areas such as basic mechanic principles; theories of equipment repair and modification; compliance with established procedures and directives; requirements for equipment maintenance records and reports; and proper utilization of equipment, personnel, funds, and facilities. (4) Evaluates directives to ensure adherence to standard methods, conformity in maintenance procedures, and the proper use of maintenance equipment, facilities, and personnel. Recommends policy, procedure, or operation changes, as required, to facilitate and ensure efficiency in maintenance operations and manpower utilization.

METHOD OF EVALUATING QUALIFICATIONS:
Work involves supervising, leading, or performing administrative work that involves collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and developing specialized information about equipment. Work also involves providing advisory services to those who design, test, produce, procure, supply, operate, repair, or dispose of equipment. Work may also involve developing or revising equipment maintenance programs. The work requires applying an intensive and practical knowledge of the characteristics, properties, and uses of equipment. Experience, education, or training which has provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more classes of equipment. The experience must include knowledge of standard shop terminology. A basic knowledge of mechanical principles relating to equipment. Experience must demonstrate the ability to read and interpret blue prints and technical publications. Knowledge is of the type gained from technical training, education, and experience in functions such as repairing, overhauling, maintaining, constructing, or inspecting equipment. Experience using computer and automation systems.
Applicants applying at the GS-09 level must have 24 months of general and specialized experience, education or training which provided knowledge and skill in applying principles, concepts, and methods of equipment design. Experience in the use of tools and test equipment. Experience developing, installing, inspecting or revising equipment maintenance programs and techniques.
