Salem VA Medical Center, an H-1B cap exempt tertiary referral center, is accepting CV's from interested Pulmonologists to join its experienced staff of physicians and health professionals as a Pulmonary physician in the Department of Medicine at the Medical Center. Selected candidates will be responsible comprehensive inpatient and outpatient primary and/or consultative care for patients within the scope of a general Pulmonary practice.
In addition to our continuing commitment to quality Veteran care, Salem VA Medical Center is also a teaching hospital and research center, maintaining both an active R&D; program encompassing multiple specialty practices as well as three active medical school affiliations with the University of Virginia School of Medicine, the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.

TOUR OF DUTY: Monday Friday, 7:45am 4:30pm, with Night/Weekend call rotation, as necessary.
The selected candidate will be responsible for performing duties to include, but not limited to the following:
- Provides inpatient/outpatient care to the Veteran population
- Provides education, guidance and supervision to medical students and house staff as required;
- Demonstrates sound decision making skills within the clinical
- Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic tests necessary to properly evaluate and guide treatment for any patients assigned to their care;
- Participates in the call rotation established for the section;
- Participates in the formal education of the residents, fellows and medical students by presenting teaching rounds, lectures, conferences, etc.;
- Meets Scholarly activities requirements, including peer-reviewed publication and national professional organization participation;
- Assists in conducting studies regarding treatment modalities, outcomes, and other aspects of patient care when appropriate;

- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Board Eligible/Certified preferred. Certified in Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) preferred. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Physical Requirements: The physical requirements of this position include occasional lifting, prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing, reaching (overhead, extensive/repetitive), repetitive motion, and stooping. The mental/sensory requirements include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, and logical thinking. The environment's pace can vary from steady to a sometimes fast pace requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent, sometimes intense customer interactions, and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes noisy environment. There may be an occasional need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease, illness, and hazardous materials.
