Wahlen Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, and nine community clinics across Utah, Idaho, and Nevada. The Geriatrics Staff Physician is an academic physician responsible for carrying out operations of the Geriatric Medicine Section of the Medicine Service. The staff physician collaborates with the Section Chief to determine the mission and objectives of the Section. The incumbent understands the Section priorities and objectives and facilitates accomplishment of the objectives in collaboration with the Section Chief. In addition to clinical matters, the Staff Physician participates in the education, training, and research missions of the Section and Service. Some weekends and early and late shifts may be required and opportunities for inpatient ward attending and inpatient Geriatric consultation will be discussed with the Chief of Medicine, Section Chief and Chief Inpatient Medicine Service.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Preferred Experience: One year of geriatric experience in healthcare delivery and research preferred.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. **
