The Medicine Service Mission is to lead satisfied staff dedicated to providing high quality patient centered care here at STVHCS, a great tertiary training and research Veteran's Hospital. The Dermatology position supports this mission through administrative dependability, direct patient care, and support of their Section's educational and research activities and is located at the Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital.

Administrative Duties include, but are not limited to, Leadership responsibilities; HR;Staff Management; Time/Leave Management and Clinical Management.

Clinical Dutiesinclude, but are not limited to, Patient Care- The practitioner should be able to perform basic dermatological procedures such as the excision of benign and malignant skin lesion, biopsies, phototherapy, patch testing, use of biologic therapy, cryotherapy, BOTOX, fillers and topical chemotherapy. Medical/Clinical Knowledge; Clinical Judgment; Interpersonal & Communication Skills; Professionalism and System-Based Practice. There is also some in-patient care and supervision of resident call.

Education/Teaching Duties: Practitioners are expected to show effectiveness in teaching, monitoring, and coordinating educational activities, and comply with necessary trainee supervision.

Research Duties(if applicable): Physician researchers will show an ability to identify and define significant Research and Development problems, to plan and execute a precise research program, and to generate effective reports and results worthy of publication. Researchers are responsible for oversight of any research staff that they supervise.

Preferred Experience:

  1. Board certified in Dermatology by ABD.

  2. Proof of current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) training will be required.

  3. Active Patient Care duties in Dermatology procedures/testing setting within the last 2 years.

  4. Experience Teaching in Dermatology residency or fellowship program.

  5. Evidence of Form of Scholarly Activity (Poster/Meeting Presentation/Educational Lectures/Equivalent).

  6. Active Patient Care duties in Dermatology clinic setting within the last 2 years.

7.Experience with Electronic Medical Records.

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following:

Basic Requirements*: *

  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • First-Year Residency (Internship)

Physical Requirements:

A pre-placement physical examination will be completed prior to appointment to determine the physical and mental fitness of candidates. Physical requirements include, but not limited to: moderate lifting (15-44 pounds), moderate carrying (15-44 pounds), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, use of both hands, walking and/or standing for 6 hours, repeated bending (2-4 hours), ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision correctable at 13' to 16' to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision 20/30, ability to distinguish basic colors, hearing (aid permitted), mental/emotional stability, ability to perform privileges, independently performs physical exams as appropriate to position , and cognitive stability.
