The VA Puget Sound Health Care System in Seattle, WA, in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, is recruiting for full time and part time Emergency Physicians, prefer Board Certified/Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine will consider Board Certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine with significant experience in Emergency Medicine. The VA Puget Sound Seattle Branch is a 1-A complexity facility with a modern 25 bed Emergency Department, caring for approximately 21,000 veterans per year with a 20% admission rate. Candidates must be energetic, with strong customer service skills, and must have recent Emergency Department experience. The successful candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team delivering patient-focused, quality care in the Emergency Medicine Section. Candidate must also have effective communication skills and work cooperatively with all staff that care for emergency patients and their families. Clinical responsibilities include direct patient care and Advanced practice provider supervision.

As an Emergency Medicine Physician, you will provide emergent medical treatment and personal care services to ill and injured veterans. Duties include documenting observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition; collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes; ordering appropriate diagnostic tests, determining need for hospitalization at this facility or transferring the patient to another facility and performing Emergency Medicine procedures such as intubation and suturing and indicated. Must meet performance measures, as applicable. Our facility is seeking individuals who possess good organizational skills which enable completion of work, a desire to participate in process improvement initiatives and a demonstrated ability to assume leadership in a patient centered program, and the ability to establish effective communication with patients, families, visitors and members of the interdisciplinary team.

Work Schedule: Irregular Shift Work; which includes days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Basic Requirements:

  • Citizenship of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
