The surgeon hired for this position will provide patient care in a direct fashion, and he or she will provide patient care indirectly via the supervision of Vascular Surgery Residents and one or more mid-level providers (NP or PA). Consequently, he or she would be expected to earn a faculty appointment at the Department of Surgery at LSU in Shreveport, LA. He or she would be expected to take call serving as the backup for and supervisor of the Vascular Surgery Resident on call. This position includes the opportunity to perform clinical research.

Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
American Board of Surgery Board Certified or Eligible Graduate of an ACGME - accredited vascular surgery residency training program; Demonstrated excellent skills in the comprehensive care of illnesses and injuries within the scope of vascular surgery including endovascular surgery; Excellent letters of recommendation from the program director and 2 attendings for recent graduates or from the Chief of Surgery and 2 other surgeons in most recent hospital for those who are currently in practice; Demonstrated ability to work with surgical residents and medical students; Strong commitment to the visions of the VA care of the Veteran, teaching and research; Demonstrated ability to work with physicians and providers from all other specialties; and Must be able to obtain faculty appointment at the Department of Surgery of the LSU-Shreveport School of Medicine.
