Respiratory Therapist Casual/As Needed St Michael's Hospital, Steven's Point Hours:Casual/As Needed 8 hr shifts available working 0600 to 1400, 1400 to 2200, 2200 to 0600 Casual Requirements: It is expected that a casual staff accept undesirable shifts as appropriate (i.e. nights, weekends, holidays) on an agreed upon basis with the scheduling team. A casual staff may be asked to work a specific holiday and/or weekends. This will be addressed individually with each associate during the holiday and weekend scheduling. In order to keep competencies and maintain skills related to Ministry Saint Michael's Hospital, a casual staff will be required to work three times per six week schedule. This will be flexible to the staff person's availability, also. The staff may work all three days together. The Respiratory Therapist performs respiratory care assessments and therapies and performs pulmonary and cardiac tests to patients as ordered by a physician. 1.Performs initial patient assessment and orders per evidenced based Adult Respiratory Care Assess and Treat protocols. Performs patient re-evaluations per protocol. 2. Achieves customer service excellence by understanding the needs of all customers. a. Monitors and seeks to improve customer satisfaction feedback by assessing customer needs and initiating actions to meet those needs. b. Responds to and resolves customer expectations. c. Role models excellent customer service and sets high level service expectations for the interdependent team. 3.Initiates oxygen therapy per physician order. Evaluates patient needs through assessment using oximetry and arterial blood gases. Recommends changes in oxygen therapy to physician. 4.Performs pulmonary screenings and function studies based on physician order. 5.Performs emergency care and critical care procedures based on patient needs and as appropriate for age group. 6.Manages patient care utilizing Adult Respiratory Care Asses and Treat Protocols. 7.Assists in the collection and analysis of quality improvement performance data. 8.Performs stress tests using treadmill and cardiac diagnostic equipment. Assists exercise physiologist during testing procedures. 9.Performs incentive spirometry, aerosol therapy using approved medications, inhalers, metered dose inhalers, and CPT-bronchial therapy treatment. 10.Initiates and checks ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, and heated high-flow nasal cannulas. Assesses patient and ensures appropriate use of equipment. 11.Sets up and downloads data for Holter and Events monitoring. Instructs patient on diary documentation. 12.Sets-up and discontinues ETC02 monitor. 13.Performs oxygen rounds and documents. 14.Inputs patient order and charges into computer system. 15.Performs therapy and diagnostic testing to patients of all ages in the emergency department. 16.Documents assessments and interventions in meditech and logicare. 17.Performs Breath Alcohol and urine testing as ordered. 18.Provides clinical instruction and orientation to new employees and students. 19.Dissembles, cleans and reassembles equipment using acceptable cleaning procedures. 20.Stocks equipment and oxygen tanks as needed. 21.Performs electrocardiograms and arterial blood gases as ordered by physician. 22.Troubleshoots equipment as needed. 23.Provides patient education on a variety of pulmonary topics, based on patient needs, and patient age. 24.Provides input to departmental operations, and participates in department meetings, projects and committees. Qualifications: Graduate of a NBRC approved respiratory care program State of Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licensing Respiratory Care Practitioner. Certified Respiratory Therapist Technician and/or eligible for registration. Registered Respiratory Therapist or eligible.
