At Stony Brook Medicine, theDirector of Patient Financial Services will provide leadership and oversight to all daily activities related to planning, implementing and maintaining all functions pertinent to the Business Office including, billing, collections, customer service, appeals and denials and cash postings. The incumbent is responsible for the hospital’s Charge Description Master (CDM) and coordinates activities with other departments such as HIM, Patient Access, Managed Care and Finance to resolve issues affecting successful submissions of claims and/or patient receivable balances. In addition, the incumbent will assist the Director of Revenue Cycle on matters related to improving the hospital’s revenue cycle.
Duties of the Director of Patient Financial Services *may include the following but are not limited to:* * Organizes and directs all activities to ensure control and management of patient accounts receivable. (Includes billing, collections, customer service, denial management and cash posting). * Assist the Director of Revenue Cycle in hospital revenue cycle process improvement initiatives. * Coordinates activities with other departments (HIM, Revenue Integrity, Patient Access, Finance etc.) to ensure registration accuracy, denial prevention, compliance and timely billing. * Manages the Hospital Charge Description Master to ensure its accuracy and adherence with regulatory guidelines. * Monitors the constantly changing regulatory environment to ensure compliance with billing and collection guidelines. Acts as lead departmental contact with Corporate Compliance Office. * Develops and presents dashboards and reports with Key Performance indicators, metrics and data points to support Management Objectives, regarding Accounts Receivable and Cash Flow. * Develop and implement a training program for the Business Office. Conduct Compliance training as necessary. * Manages the relationship between the hospital and the Attorney General Civil Recoveries Unit and external collection agencies. * Recommends and facilitates upgrades to existing systems and/or new and updated systems specific to the needs of Stony Brook Medicine.
*Qualifications* * * *Required: *The candidate must have a Bachelors Degree and 12 years of experience which 10 must be supervisory in a hospital patient accounts department. In addition the candidate should have experience in the use of the following systems: Siemens Invision, Cerner, Eclypsys, Epremis, and Microsoft office products. Candidate must have extensive knowledge of governmental and third party payor requirements, claims processing practices and compliance requirements. Candidate must have excellent written and verbal skills.
*Preferred: *Masters degree in related field. Successfully implemented/replaced a hospital Patient Accounting system. Experience consolidating the patient accounts functions within a hospital system. Coding certification. Academic Medical Center experience.
