ACADEMIC ANESTHESIOLOGIST - The Syracuse VA Medical Center, Syracuse, New York has an opening for a full-time Academic Anesthesiologist who is board certified/board eligible in Anesthesiology. Duties include overall responsibility for the global delivery of services for inpatients and outpatients in an academic setting. The successful candidate must qualify for an academic appointment with our affiliate the State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University. Applicants must possess a full and unrestricted license in any State. **

The Syracuse VA Medical Center is a 106-bed tertiary hospital. The Medical Center has a new OR suite that was part of a $95 million dollar clinical addition. The Syracuse VA Medical Center has an active affiliation with the State University of New York Upstate Medical University (SUNY UMU) where over 650 of their students, residents, interns, and fellows receive training each year.

Duties: The duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Peri-operative physician responsibilities, including peri-operative risk assessment, patient preparation for general or conduction anesthesia and management of post-operative care.
  • Operating room anesthesia care, including hands on management and out of operating room (remote site) anesthesia care.
  • Assignment will include rotational on-call coverage
  • Provides hands on clinical instruction for medical students, residents, and fellows. The position requires supervision of CRNA staff and anesthesia technicians.
  • Participates in hospital-wide committees as assigned, to include Lean Management and Systems Redesign.
  • Other duties as assigned, within clinical privileges, to meet the needs of the Medical Center.

Basic Requirements*: *

  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Board eligible/certified by American Board of Anesthesiology.
  • Must qualify for an academic appointment at SUNY Upstate Medical University.
