Job Description Summary
Onondaga Community College is a two-year college located on a 280-acre campus in Syracuse, NY. OCC operates under the State University of New York (SUNY) system and is locally sponsored by Onondaga County. Bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees are available on campus through the Regional Higher Education Center. OCC has been named a “Military Friendly” school by G.I. Strong candidates will offer demonstrated success in at least some of the following areas:
-Availability for student support;
-Technology to enhance learning;
-Working with diverse populations of students, especially underrepresented students;
-Prepare and present lectures in Electrical Technology courses;
-Prepare and present hands-on learning activities (particularly for lab sessions) that reflect course outcomes;
-Respond to student queries (e.g. email or voicemail) as needed, in a reasonably timely manner;
-Write, administer, and grade all student assignments and exams;
-Compute grades and submit them on time;
-Teach high school students taking college level courses at Onondaga Community College through the PTECH program;
-During each academic semester (Fall and Spring), availability to teach Monday through Friday, anytime between 8:00am – 10:30pm, approximately 25 hours minimum per week as needed to cover classes, labs, office hours, and other College related obligations. One can expect at least a 35-40 hour total weekly commitment with course preparation and grading;
-Occasional Summer semester assignments are possible.
-A Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering or closely related field (such as electronics or applied physics); or
-A Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology or closely related field (such as electronics or applied physics) with a Professional Engineering license in Electrical Engineering; or
-A Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology or closely related field plus 10 years of experience in the electrical industry such as instrumentation and control, electronics, circuit design, or power systems;
-At least 3 years of relevant industry experience in the electrical industry such as instrumentation and control, electronics, circuit design, or power systems.
A Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering or closely related field plus 10 years or more of relevant industry experience in the electrical industry such as instrumentation and control, electronics, circuit design, or power systems.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching, flexibility in instructional delivery, active professional development/life-long learning, experience in student advisement, curriculum development, service to college and community, and a commitment to working closely with undergraduate students in small-class settings in a dynamic and diverse/multicultural college environment.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products.
-Experience teaching (both post-secondary and secondary students is a plus) and practical hands-on, design, or technology management experience in the application of electrical technology;
-Proficiency in oral and written communications with the ability to generate high-quality classroom materials;
-Ability to dissect a complex topic into its fundamental elements and present those elements in a coherent manner to sufficiently edify inexperienced individuals.
