Washington State DSHS Developmental Disabilities Case/Resource Manager - Tacoma - 01491 in Tacoma, Washington


Region 3 Field – Tacoma Developmental Disabilities Administration office is currently searching for a Developmental Disabilities Case/Resource Manager to provide supports to the clients we serve by providing advanced level social services and specialized case and /or resource management for people with developmental disabilities and their families. Travel is required as a part of the job and occurs daily. This job covers the geographical area Pierce County and you'll be assigned a caseload within this area.

Core work hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with Saturday and Sunday off.

People with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families are valued citizens of the state of Washington. Within the Department of Social and Health Services, the Developmental Disabilities Administration strives to develop and implement public policies that will promote individual worth, self-respect, and dignity such that each individual is valued as a contributing member of the community.


Identify support needs of clients of the Division of Developmental Administration (DDA) and plan for and authorize payment for appropriate services. Schedule and conduct face to face home visits with clients and families.

Complete and revise client assessments and service plans in CARE within established timelines as required for caseload and according to WAC, and send appropriate notices to client and representative. Review and monitor client plans, reports, and client progress.

Request Exceptions to Rule (ETRs) and prior approvals per requirements. Testify at administrative hearings as needed. Complete service authorizations and input before the regular cutoff to ensure timely provider payments.

Based on assessed needs, refer individuals to appropriate DDA services, other department services, and community programs/resources. Work with families and community members to advocate on behalf of clients. Collaborate with other agencies and professionals to support clients. Identify clients or families in crisis and make emergent referrals as needed to appropriate authorities, department/division services, or local community resources.

Establish and maintain complete and accurate case files. Document all client activity in the service episode records in case files. Complete Planned Action Notices, policy exception request, and documents that require higher level approval in a timely manner. Complete Incident Reports per department/administration policy and procedures.


Required Education and Experience

A Bachelor's degree in social sciences, social services, human services, behavioral sciences or an allied field


Two years of experience providing social services to people with intellectual disabilities. Graduate training in social science, social services, human services, behavioral sciences or an allied field will substitute, year for year, for one year of the experience providing social services to people with intellectual disabilities.


One year experience as a Developmental Disabilities Case/Resource Manager Trainee within Washington State employment.

Degree Notes:

  • A degree in Social Work must be from an educational program by the Council on Social Work Education.

  • This job requires Bachelor's degree in social sciences, social services, human services, behavioral sciences or an allied field from an accredited institution whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or a foreign equivalent.


  • Satisfactorily completion of 12 months as a Developmental Disabilities Case/Resource Manager Trainee within Washington State service.
