Under the direction of the Director Purchasing & Supply, manage a purchasing section for the procurement of materials that will optimize value (price, quality and delivery) for U-Haul. Develop, evaluate and select new vendors for obtaining materials. Select and coordinate staff of Buyers and Expeditors. Visit key vendors and prospective vendors as needed to evaluate their plants, equipment, production potential, etc. Review Purchasing and Supply Department plans periodically and develop purchasing policies and procedures necessary to attain goals. Assist developing department budget.
Coordinate with immediate supervisor in matters affecting field entities outside of Purchasing and Supply
Consult with field entities on procurement matters.
Develop new vendors. Determine their ability to produce materials needed to optimize value for U-Haul before turning them over to Buyers for continued work.
Visit vendors in order to evaluate their plants, equipment, production potential, quality control capability, etc.
Personally supervise all purchases over $5,000
Consult with vendors and U-Haul companies on quality control and product defects. Follow through with vendors to ensure settlement of product defects, order shortages, price changes or poor deliveries
Offer technical advice on procurement of materials, material specifications or defects of purchased goods to Engineering and other management to determine problems and take corrective action.
Coordinate auxiliary staff services (personnel who work for vendors and explain particular functions or give seminars) as needed.

Bachelors degree in Purchasing/Materials Management or the equivalent in experience.
6-7 years of relevant experience.
