VA Maine Healthcare System (formerly Togus VA Medical Center) proudly serves Maine's veterans at a main campus in Augusta or any of nine outpatient clinics. It's a modern 67 bed facility with general medical, surgical, intermediate and mental health beds, as well as 40 Skilled-Longer Stay beds, a 25-bed Dementia Unit, and a hospice unit. Interprets and performs Radiological and Nuclear Medicine examinations. Privileges are granted by the Chief of Radiology and the Professional Standards Board. Provides written report within 48 hours of the examination using voice recognition and PACS. Works collegially and cooperatively with other Radiologists and staff members in getting the daily work accomplished.
MRI Fellowship training preferred: Would assume role as lead radiologist providing oversight and guidance to MRI service. Serve as MRI Safety Officer. Provide expertise to continually update protocols for all MRI exams. Serve as consultant to other radiologists interpreting MRI exams on an as needed basis. Assist Chief of Service in evaluating MRI equipment and possible upgrades as necessary.
Interprets General Radiology examinations (plain film and DEXA) as provided.
Performs fluoroscopic examinations (contrast and non-contrast) with the assistance of a licensed Technologist. Assists providers in performance of specialized examinations when requested.
Interprets CT and MRI examinations of the head, neck body, spine, and some extremities.
Interprets Ultrasound examinations of the internal organs, thyroid, scrotum, etc.
Interprets vascular ultrasound studies, including carotid duplex exams, extremity venous exams for DVT, etc.
Interprets Nuclear Medicine studies such as Bone Scan, HIDA, MUGA, Thyroid, Nuclear Cardiology etc.
Performs Interventional procedures under CT guidance, Ultrasound guidance or fluoroscopy guidance, including image guided biopsies, arthrography, and therapeutic joint injections.
Participates in Quality Management activities such as image quality, clerical checks, peer review, Tumor Board and other activities as required.
May be asked from time to time to review imaging policy and procedures and recommend updates or changes to the Chief of Radiology for implementation and support the coordination of the services daily functioning as needed.

Basic Requirements*: *
- Citizenship of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completion of residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Light to moderate lifting and carrying, up to 44 pounds; straight pulling; pushing; reaching at and above shoulders; use of both hands and fingers required; walking and/or standing (2-4 hours); sitting (4-6 hours); crawling, kneeling; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.
