NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED – This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.

Open to current members of the Arizona Air National Guard, in the rank of E1-E5. Applicants will maintain their current military assignment.

This job announcement is for employment as an Arizona Air National Guard Technician; a Federal/ Excepted Civil Service position. This is a dual-status technician job whereby you are required to maintain active membership in a National Guard unit/wing and are required to wear the military uniform at the workplace.


This position is located in the Egress Systems Shop of the Accessories Element under the Component Repair Flight. The primary purpose of the position is to perform on and off equipment maintenance on aircraft egress systems, such as aircraft ejection seats, extraction and escape systems, egress components of jettison canopies, explosive components of escape hatches and doors, and egress trainers. Troubleshoots, installs, removes, repairs, modifies, adjusts, inspects, and tests such components as regulators, flow indicators, actuator motors, thruster and positioning mechanisms, seat actuators, catapult guide rails, ejection seats, rocket packs, and canopies, etc. Inspect pressurization system air pressure gauges for sufficient pressure and bottles and regulators for general condition and serviceability. Performs installation, modification, and repair of aircraft egress systems. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as ORI, IG and UE inspections, mobility, and command support exercises. May be required to perform such additional duties as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operator, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or serve as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies.

Prior to appointment into this position, selectee must be a current member of the Arizona Air National Guard and be able to qualify for the following AFSC : 2A653

Acceptance of a Federal Excepted technician position of over 179 days in length will cause termination from the Selected Reserve Incentive Program (BONUS). Individual selected will be required to take a pre-employment medical screening which will be paid for by the Agency.

Permanent Change of Station (PCS) funds are not available for this position.


Specialized Experience:

WG-05- 6 Months, WG-08- 12 months, WG-10- 18 months experience or training in planning and layout of repair sequence, ability to complete the modification, repair and installation of ordnance systems; experience in diagnosing/troubleshooting malfunctions and determining remedy where complex relationships exist among a variety of ordnance systems; experience which required the use of hand tools and measuring instruments, such as micrometers and calipers; experience which required the use of a variety of testing equipment such as flow meters, voltmeters, leak detectors and electrical circuitry test consoles; experience which demonstrates skills in interpreting technical directions, blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer's specifications; experience that demonstrates individual's ability to learn procedures used to service, repair and maintain aircraft ordnance systems and recognize various defect of the equipment. Individual's ability to use common hand tools and experience which demonstrates the ability to follow written instructions.


  1. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  2. Knowledge of mechanical and electrical principles applied to F-16 aircraft egress system.

  3. Knowledge of and ability to use and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams and technical publications as relates to F-16 aircraft egress system.

  4. Knowledge of explosives as applied to the ejection seat and canopy on the F-16 aircraft.

  5. Knowledge and ability to select proper maintenance tech data and procedures, troubleshoot and isolate malfunctions and repair equipment to a serviceable condition.

  6. Skill in the use of hand tools, precision measurement devices, appropriate diagnostic equipment and maintenance fixtures.

  7. Knowledge of job safety, explosive safety, fire, security and housekeeping regulations.
